The Silverware team harbors many hidden talents. Who knew that this current pandemic our world is experiencing, would bring them to the surface? Sara Silver, our CEO and Solution Architect, has had an affinity for sewing since she was a young girl. Over the years she honed her skills to become an amazing quilter – and now she puts that skill set to work helping others.
Once our office instituted the “work from home” mandate, Sara felt she needed to do her part in flattening the curve. She developed a pattern, gathered her abundance of quilting fabric, and began sewing protective masks for her family and friends. “I saw the many masks being made on the internet and decided to combine a few patterns that were simple and offered the best coverage”, said Sara. Once that goal was achieved, she enlisted the help of her friend and Silverware’s Phoenix Office Manager, Gail Wiley. Together they set out to help others in need – and started with a local nonprofit called The Opportunity Tree.
The Opportunity Tree provides services for adults and youth who are intellectually and developmentally disabled and live in Arizona. “We could not get any masks for our staff in order to protect our members from being exposed. That is when Sara jumped in to help. She put her amazing talent and her well-equipped sewing room to work! It was very gratifying for us all to be able to do something to help during this difficult time,” said Bob Silver, our CFO.
Bob also happens to be Chairman of their board and thought it would be a great idea to outfit the staff and their members. He jumped in to help with cutting and ironing while Sara and Gail set to work sewing. Together they completed 150 masks for the organization!
Shortly after, the team supplied the White Mountain Apache Tribe with protective masks for their community. A call was sent out from the tribe for cleaning supplies and sprays, water, non-perishable food, and of course, washable masks. Sara and her crew provided 100 masks toward their COVID-19 Emergency needs.
To all essential workers and your families, thank you for your work and sacrifice. We continue to fight with you as we move towards a better future together.
