We’re freshly back from the NAV and Business Central User Group Summit 2019 (in beautiful Orlando this year!) and are excited to share the Summit 2019 highlights! This event always inspires us, as we connect with Dynamics 365 customers, ISVs (independent software vendors) and other partners. We come away with fresh ideas, new connections, renewed passion for the product line and unique insight into the direction Microsoft has for the solution.
If you’re not familiar with the event, NAV and Business Central User Group Summit 2019 (Summit) is the annual user group conference for Microsoft Dynamic 365 products: Customer Engagement (CRM), Finance and Operations, GP, NAV and Business Central. The conference is designed for users, by users and features hundreds of educational sessions to help everyone maximize the performance of their software. Expertise is shared openly and honestly, and there are ample opportunities to network with peers who are in similar roles or industries to learn about the challenges and solutions they’ve encountered. In short, it’s worth the trip.
Where the Magic Happens
The conference sessions are information packed, but the real magic happens in the exhibit hall where hundreds of vendors showcase their products and services to 7,000+ users. Summit attendees roam the expo hall between sessions to see what’s new and learn how they can best accessorize their Dynamics solution. We saw several incredible solutions as we gathered with new and old friends at the Silverware booth. This year we embraced an ERP Magic theme. In addition to our enchanting swag stickers and chargers, we hosted Matt the Magician! While we don’t recommend any business sleight-of-hand, Matt’s fun tricks provided fresh entertainment and helped make our point that the right ERP and the right partner are a magical combination.
While at the conference, we always zero in on the product group to get a feeling for what people are thinking, how product trends are changing user expectations, and how partners and ISVs are adapting to meet customers’ evolving needs. Here are our top 4 takeaways from Summit 2019:
1. Business Central, Grown Up
The fall release of Dynamics 365 Business Central includes many user-requested features such as an improved home page with menu customization ability, a stronger “edit in Excel” functionality, and multi-tasking across multiple windows. NAV users will find it familiar, flexible and easy to use—with an updated unified user interface that looks glamorous on every device, providing a seamless experience across desktop, mobile and Outlook.
2. ISVs Upped Their Game
Last year, ISVs were still running their demos in NAV 2018—they simply hadn’t made the jump to Business Central. But this year, many of our favorite add-on solutions—including those for credit card processing, warehousing and shipping—are now available in Microsoft AppSource and are ready to incorporate into your Business Central implementation. This is clear evidence of significant and welcome momentum towards Business Central and AppSource that we expect will continue.
3. Tipping Point in User Readiness
We are witnessing a tipping point as cloud continues to prove its value through the ease of upgrades, the scale of resources, and the flexible hosting options. More NAV users are making the switch to Business Central, confidently entrusting the future of their business to this powerhouse. Instead of discussing “how to migrate,” the conversation has changed; customers are now planning “when to schedule their migration.”
4. Just Say Yes to Flexible Migration
Now that the platform is robust, and more ISV solutions are available, it’s time to start the migration to Business Central on your own terms. Many of our customers migrate to Business Central in an on-prem or private cloud environment first before moving some, or all workloads to the Microsoft public cloud. This is a perfect option for companies seeking a phased transition.
